Braces for adults

Braces for adults

At YOURPRACTICE.ie, we believe it is never too late to get the smile you have always wanted.

Our patients range in age from 7 years old to 64 years old! It is becoming more and more common nowadays to see adults with braces. Whether you do not mind the look of metal braces, or want something more subtle or completely invisible, we offer treatment options for all choices!

There is many benefits of braces for adults. As well as finally having that perfect straight smile you have always wanted, teeth will be now easier to clean! Crooked teeth can be more difficult to brush, so by straightening them it makes them easier for you to reach all the surfaces of your teeth and give them a thorough clean.

35% of our patients at YOURPRACTICE.ie are adult patients. There really is no age limit for braces. The teeth need to be healthy and stable for treatment but no age limit applies. It is never too late for a straighter smile!

Many questions we get from our adult patients in the first consultation appointment are;

How long does adult treatment take?

This varies on each person. If an adult wishes to make minor cosmetic changes to their smile, it will take less time than if they require more complex treatment. On average treatment time for an adult is 12 to 18 months.

Will braces affect my speech?

Some braces such as Invisalign and lingual braces can give you a slight lisp to begin with. But the more you talk and get used to your brace, the lisp tends to go away within a week or so. If you opt for braces that go on the front of your teeth, it is highly unlikely that you will experience any speech difficulty.

Can I have braces if I have a crown?

In most cases it is possible to have braces with a crown. It is also possible to work around implants and bridges.

Will I be able to whiten my teeth during or after braces?

While you are not able to whiten during treatment, you will certainly be able to whiten your teeth after you finished treatment. Many of our adult patients choose to whiten their teeth when they finish treatment as they feel it gives them that extra ‘wow’ factor. Ask a member of our team about whitening once you have finished your treatment.
